FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions

Do you really need all of that personal information just to check for DSL?

The short answer is, yes. Because DSL is a distance based technology, we need to know your exact location in order to accurately determine whether or not DSL is available. To be eligible for DSL service, you must be within a certain distance from the telephone company's central office (CO). There are also other criteria, such as whether or not there is an existing telephone at the location, etc. We are currently developing a new availability form that will require just one small piece of information (such as an area code, or zip code) in order to check for DSL Availability. We hope that this will be launched soon, and appreciate your patience.

What happens to my information once you have it?

Free DSL Search uses your information for the sole purpose of checking for broadband availability. We DO NOT:

Sell, trade, or otherwise share your information with third party companies.

Send unsolicited emails. If you request availability information, we only send an email letting you know what type of broadband (if any) is available, and through which ISP.

Ask for private information via email, such as Social Security or credit card numbers. This is a tactic used by hackers (also known as phishing) to gain access to your financial information. Never give out this sensitive information via email, even if the request seems to come from a valid source.
